About Understanding Solana Today

Our mission, team, and approach to independent Solana education from Bristol, United Kingdom.

Our mission

Understanding Solana Today exists to help independent readers navigate the Solana ecosystem through clear, unbiased educational material. We believe that informed study — not promotional content — is the foundation for anyone exploring a public blockchain network.

Registered business

Understanding Solana Today Ltd is the official registered business name. We are incorporated in England and Wales and operate from our Bristol office.

History

The project began in 2021 when Dr. Elena Marsh, then a university researcher studying distributed systems, started writing plain-language summaries of Solana documentation for colleagues who found the official materials difficult to parse. What started as internal notes grew into a public reading library by early 2022.

In 2023, we added consultation services after repeated requests from readers who wanted personalised guidance on where to start. James Okonkwo joined as co-director in 2024, bringing experience in adult education programme design. Today we serve readers across the United Kingdom and internationally.

Our approach

We write every article from primary sources — protocol documentation, on-chain data, and peer-reviewed research. We do not accept payment from projects for coverage or placement in our reading lists. When we recommend a resource, it is because we have read it ourselves and found it useful.

Our consultations are educational, not financial. We help you understand concepts, find reliable sources, and structure your study. We do not recommend specific tokens, validators, or investment strategies.

The team

Dr. Elena Marsh — Founder and lead researcher. PhD in distributed systems from the University of Bristol. Elena has read and annotated over 400 Solana-related documents since 2021 and delivers our flagship Learning Path Consultations.

James Okonkwo — Co-director and workshop facilitator. Former curriculum designer at an adult education centre in Cardiff. James structures our group orientation workshops and maintains the learning path curriculum.

Priya Shah — Research associate. MSc in computer science from Imperial College London. Priya handles reading list curation and keeps our glossary current as the ecosystem evolves.

Values

  • Accuracy over speed — We publish fewer articles than promotional sites, but each one is fact-checked against current documentation.
  • Reader independence — Our goal is to equip you to study on your own, not to create dependency on our services.
  • Transparency — We clearly state what our consultations include and exclude. Our pricing is published without hidden fees.

Community

We participate in local blockchain education meetups in Bristol and occasionally speak at university events. If you are organising a study group, our Group Orientation Workshop may be a useful starting point.
